High

a Rocky Mountain lullaby

High

Upon a Rocky Mountain High

Jagged Peaks pierce blue, clear sky

Angels plan the day’s affairs

And who should host them unawares

And whose lives they should elevate

And which poor souls will have to wait

So high, only eagles soar above

Unless you count the Spirit–Dove

This is where I yearn to be

Alone in such serenity

Silent angels study me—

I’m trapped in Time; they, Eternity

Upon a Rocky Mountain High

Let me live or let me die

The air is thin..and cool…and crisp

Not like here, not like this

No traffic jams, all elbow space

That kind of life I swear I’d embrace

Where angels gather because they can

So high above the cares of man

So close to God you can feel his breath

So full of life, so far from death

Where songs endure though singers die

—A Rocky Mountain lullaby
