Following are a few open letters to mostly closed minds.
Dearly Beloved,
Until you accept that you are beloved you will never be loved, or rather, you will never believe that you are. Only God’s love is pure and flawless. Every other love you experience will have bitterness and disappointment mixed into beauty and joy.
Dear Leader,
Nobody believes you are perfect. Stop pretending you are. You only fool yourself and alienate those who might follow you if you were authentic and vulnerable.
Dear Emmy,
(“Emmy” is my nickname for the imitator.)
Stop finding solace in Oscar Wilde. Don’t use his quote as a reason to imitate another until you read the entire thing.
Most people only know the part that goes, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
The actual quote is a little more in line with reality:
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”
That is the full quote and the unfiltered truth of choosing imitation over individuality. Even if your imitation is Emmy Award-worthy, it is still imitation. If you try to be someone else, you can only be the second best at best. The only person you can be the best of…is yourself. Do you, and do it better every day than the day before.
Dear Influencer,
Who are you influencing and how? Will you be glad to give an account of how you used your influence when the book of your life is audited and the accounts settled? Was that really who you meant to be? Is that the legacy you want to leave for future generations?
Dear me,
What will you do with what is left? How will you reconcile what you write with what is right?
Dear Santa,
Throw away the naughty and nice list and start another that includes grace, hope, love, and a second chance.
Dear God,
Thank You for being the one Mind that is never closed, the eye that sees all, the ear that hears the faintest cry, the heart that beats ever true, the hand that reaches the uttermost. Thank You for being the Everlasting Love, and for extending unmerited favor.
Yours Truly,
Gene
PS: Merry Christmas!
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Gospel of Luke 2:8-11
Love, love. Thank you for the insight & reminders. Merry Christmas, Gene!
